: 標題: [請益] 語法確認 : 時間: Mon Jul 22 00:33:56 2024 （本文可能有排版篇幅的考量，建議手機使用者橫向閱讀） 很高興在新制 GMAT 拿掉 SC 之後還能看到相關的發問XD 平常翻譯案件和學術編修之餘前幾年開始也陸續編纂了自己的 SC 講義， 雖然這題我倒沒有遇過，但粗看不算太難，以下會嘗試詳盡提出各考點。 SC 的訓練不論是在學術或一般寫作上其實都很受用，最主要的兩件事情必須優先釐清： （1）語意邏輯：這個句子真正想要表達什麼？包含但不限於主從、因果、讓步關係等 這邊可能會需要一些「基本」的考場外知識，但其實在 GMAT 訓練或者平常有習慣 涉獵各大外媒、主要以英文為知識學習與資訊接受語言的話， 個人覺得不需要特別惡補就是了。 （2）句意結構：用怎樣的方式來呈現語意邏輯的內容才是最貼切的？包含但不限於限定 或非限定修飾、句首句中句尾的分詞結構（特別是 Ving 形）、 平行結構（parallelism）等 題目：[Approved April 24, 1800, the act of Congress that made provision for the removal of the government of the United States to the new federal city, Washington, D.C., also established] the Library of Congress. 中括號表示需調整之處 : 下面有敘述同一件事情的三種說法 : : A. Approved April 24, 1800, the act of Congress that made the provision for : the removal of the United States to the new federal city, : Washington, D.C., also established : : B. The act of Congress, which was approved April 24, 1800, making provision : for the removal of the government of the United States to the new federal : city, Washington, D.C., also established : : D. Approved April 24, 1800, the act of Congress made provision for the removal of the government of the United States to the new federal city, Washington, D.C., also establishing 首先釐清語意邏輯，「the」 act of Congress 這個國會的立法案 不是歷史上只有唯一一件，所以這個句子在說的就是這個特定的立法案做了兩件事情 注意這裡的「做了兩件事情」： 事件一. 「to make provision for」 事件二. 「to establish」 是沒有主從或因果關係的，不是因為前者伴隨後者，或前者導致後者 而是兩件事情在語意邏輯的層面是平行描述的（另可從「also」這個字判斷出） 釐清完語意邏輯後，我們來看句意結構 注意 SC 的題目針對單一選項鑽牛角尖是沒有用的，要逐一比較兩兩選項來篩選 可以優先比較結構類似的選項，例如 A.D.E. A. 看過去之後應該沒有什麼太大問題，該用限定修飾的 that 而非 which 句首的分詞片語也沒有垂懸修飾（dangling modifier）的問題，暫且保留 其次來看 D.，首先很明顯可以注意到進入主要子句之前吊了兩個分詞修飾， 顯得「頭重腳輕」，再來是「making...」的這個分詞結構 顯得 事件一. 和 事件二. 有某種時間或者因果關係，語意邏輯錯誤 同時這個 事件一. 的寫法也會讓人以為這個立法案只有唯一一個 最後則是 E.，限定修飾的 that 不見了，變成只有那麼唯一一個的立法案 再來句尾的「establishing」分詞結構讓 事件二. 成為 事件一. 的結果，語意錯誤 刪完 D.E. 後，接著回頭看 B.C. B. 與 D. 有類似的問題，事件一. 變成 事件二. 的前置關係， 無法描述核心句意的兩事件平行，語意也錯誤 最後是 C.，這個選項應該沒有什麼太大的問題，很明顯的文法錯誤， 看起來是想要用 and 連結兩獨立子句，但前句缺少主要動詞，後句則缺少邏輯主詞 答案為 A. 最合適。 ------------------------------ 最後我們回來總結一下考點： 考點一. 限定非限定的修飾需要搭配語意邏輯來判讀， 而不是看到專有名詞黑影就一律非限定修飾開槍 考點二. 多動詞同時出現的層次必須非常明確，否則讀者很容易誤會或誤讀文本內容 　　　　該平行層次出現的動詞就不該出現相互關係的邏輯修飾 考點三. 這點可能比較次要和基本但還是提出來一下，基本的文法觀念需要有， 例如主從子句需要出現邏輯主詞與主要動詞 ------------------------------ 以上分析提供你參考，祝英文學習順利^^（殺 G 愉快 XD？ --
