At the draft, Bailey was asked if he knew he had any idea the Jazz had
interest in him.

Bailey said he did not visit with the Jazz ahead of the draft. The belief
among some in the NBA was that Bailey’s representation was trying to guide
him to the Washington Wizards, who own the No. 6 pick, or the New Orleans
Pelicans, who picked seventh. Bailey distanced himself from that and said any
belief that he was trying to land with those teams was inaccurate.
“No, I’m just focused on the basketball part,” he said. “I had nothing to
do with that.”

Despite the fact that Clayton had not worked out for the Jazz during the
predraft process, he said he wasn’t totally surprised by getting chosen by
Utah.
“There were a few conversations,” Clayton said. “Not too surprised. I knew
there was a possibility.”
Jazz president of basketball operations Austin Ainge said that he’d been
watching Clayton for a long time and that the Jazz were intentional about
targeting him on Wednesday night.
Ainge’s former boss, Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad
Stevens, joked to local reporters that he was also not surprised by the
selection.
“I could’ve told you two years ago he was gonna trade up to get Clayton,”
Stevens said.

“A lot of weak side blocked shots, and his joy and energy for the game. We
do a lot of background calls and work on guys and everyone loves being around
Ace. He’s fun, smiles every day, just a breath of fresh air in the gym.”

“Two weeks ago, we sat down and looked at our picks and said what would be
the best case scenario and these were the two guys that we really wanted, so
we feel very fortunate and very excited to have them in the family,” Ainge
said.

Neither of those things worried the Jazz, though. They met with Bailey at the
draft combine in May and interviewed his teammates, coaches and those close
to him, and they didn't discover anything of concern about him as a person

He is tough, smart, an amazing shooter, athletic, and mature," Ainge said of
the most outstanding player of the 2025 Final Four. "It's been really fun for

and better and better at it every year. And that really impressed me."
