Doc Rivers credits Heat's Pat Riley for influencing him to be a coach
老河歸功Pat Riley影響他成為教練
MIAMI — The Philadelphia 76ers take on the Miami Heat on Monday in Game 1 of
the Eastern Conference semifinals, and there are numerous links between the
teams.
76人今天Game 1面對熱火，兩隊之間有很多微妙的連結。
The obvious one is Jimmy Butler, who played for the Sixers in the 2018-19
season before leaving for the Heat in free agency. But Doc Rivers has
considerable history with the Heat during his coaching career. He faced Miami
in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 playoffs. He also played for Heat president Pat
Riley during his playing career with the New York Knicks.
首先是吉巴，他在2018-19球季間替76人打球，後來來到熱火。不過，老河在執教歲月
也跟熱火有很多的交手過，2010，2011跟2012都在季後賽與熱火碰面過，他也曾在他還

Rivers, named a top 15 coach of all time earlier this season, actually
credits the legendary Riley for influencing him to get into coaching.
先前被提名為史上前15名教練的老河將功勞歸功於Riley，影響他成為一位教練。
“I’ve been a lucky coach,” said Rivers at shootaround on Monday morning in
Miami. “I guess I would say I’m a lucky player because I played for Mike
Fratello, who’s a defensive genius, and I followed that up with Larry Brown.
I followed that up with Pat Riley, and then I go to San Antonio. Pop (Gregg
Popovich) is in the front office and that’s where our relationship started,
so I’ve been around some pretty good guys, but Riley clearly had the biggest
impact. It’s not even close.”
「我一直是個幸運的教練，」星期一在熱火練球時老河說。「我猜我也會說我是個幸運
的球員，因為我替Mike Fratello打球過，他是個防守的天才，之後是跟Larry Brown，

After his playing career, Rivers was a broadcaster, and Riley pestered him
every day to get into coaching.
在結束球員生涯後，老河成為比賽播報員，然後Riley每天去纏他，要他去當教練。
“I had no thoughts of coaching until I played for Pat Riley and the way he
did it,” Rivers added. “I thought ‘Wow, that’s pretty cool.’ He was the
one who when I did TV for three years, every day he would call me or
challenge me. When are you gonna get in the fray? He would belittle me!
Literally, because I did the Miami-New York series, and every day, he got me.
I thought he was wrong, he ended up being right.”
「在我替Pat Riley打球前，我對當教練一點概念都沒有，他教球的方式，」老河說。
「我內心想，『靠~~這也太酷了吧?!』在我那三年當播報員的期間，他每天打電話給我，
或者挑戰我。在那段期間能得到啥？他會貶低我，真的，因為我那時播報熱火跟尼克系列
戰，每天他都會抓我的漏洞。我那時以為他是錯的，但是最後證明他是對的。」
Rivers has done an excellent job leading the team in the 2021-22 season amid
the Ben Simmons saga and keeping the team focused and competitive. His time
with Riley helped him to get everything going as a leader of this team.
儘管2021-22賽季的西門大戲上演，老河還是表現很好，率領球隊進軍季後，讓球隊保持
專注跟競爭力。他與Riley相處的時間幫助他有著當球隊領袖所需的所有能力。
“He inspired me, man,” he finished. “Just his speeches, his belief, and
conditioning, I was always in pretty good shape anyways so he has you
believing that you’re different than everybody else in the league and back
then, he had a foul every possession in the first five minutes rule because
they’ll stop calling them. You can’t do that anymore. … It’s his spirit
and the way he approaches the job that sets him apart.”
「老天，他是啟發我的人，」老河說。「光他的演說，他的信念，他的準備，當時，我
總是保持很好的狀況，而他讓我相信我跟聯盟裡其他的人不一樣。那時候，他會在開賽
前五分鐘在對手每次持球都去犯規，因為裁判之後就不會判了。現在是不能這樣做的
了...那是他的精神，這也是他對於教練一職所處理的方式，也是讓他與眾不同的方
式。」
