The San Francisco Giants’ Game 4 loss to the Chicago Cubs in the National Lea
gue Division Series must have been tough for a lot of players. But no one took
things harder than the club’s former closer Santiago Casilla. Following the
game, Casilla cried at his locker, according to Carl Steward of the Mercury Ne
ws.
巨人被淘汰對許多來說一定很煎熬，但沒有人比巨人前終結者Santiago Casilla還難過，
在比賽結後，Casilla在更衣室痛苦失聲。
Both catcher Buster Posey and general manager Bobby Evans attempted to console
Casilla in the clubhouse, but it didn’t have an impact on the reliever.

The 36-year-old had legitimate reasons to be upset. While the Giants’ bullpen
completely melted down in the ninth inning of Tuesday’s game, Casilla was ne
ver called upon to enter the contest. Manager Bruce Bochy turned to five diffe
rent relievers during the inning. None of them could hold a three-run lead. Th
e Giants’ bullpen coughed up four runs in the inning, eventually losing the g
ame 6-5.

In his defense, Bochy had his reasons. Casilla didn’t post his usual numbers
during the regular season. While his 3.57 ERA was solid, it was a far cry from
the 2.22 ERA he averaged from 2010 to 2015. Casilla did save 31 games for San
Francisco, but he also tied for the league lead with nine blown saves. He was
also much less effective in the second half, posting a 4.63 ERA over 23 1/3 in
nings.
Bochy不用Casilla是有理由的，Casilla在在例行賽並沒有投的像以前一樣好，雖然防禦

Casilla acknowledged he didn’t pitch up to his usual standards late in the ye
ar but cited his performance in the playoffs as the reason he thought he shoul
d have pitched during the game.

I’m a pitcher. I’m part of the bullpen. I know I have had some bad moments i
n September and during the season, but I have good numbers in the playoffs and

That’s not exactly a great measure to use in this instance. Just because Casi
lla pitched well in October 2014 doesn’t mean he would do the same in 2016. I
f anything, his most recent performance was a much better indicator of his tru
e talent. Bochy should have expected the 2016 version of Casilla to show up, n
ot the magical postseason version.

Still, Casilla’s lack of usage is sad. And it’s made even more heartbreaking
when you realize he’s set to be a free agent. After seven mostly great seaso
ns with San Francisco, three of which resulted in World Series championships,t
his is how Casilla will leave the club.

Despite his age, Casilla should catch on with another club during the offseaso
n. While he has strong memories in San Francisco, a reunion seems unlikely. Fa
ns booed Casilla during his last couple of appearances, and Bochy clearly lost
faith in him as the year went on.

In the end, Bochy’s decision was justifiable. No one is going to shed tears f
or Casilla. With that said, it’s still sad to see a player react to a loss li
ke this. Casilla cares about his job and has confidence in his abilities. He a
lso realized a loss meant the end of his run in San Francisco. You can’t faul
t a player for getting emotional under those circumstances.
最後，Bochy的決定是合理的，沒人會為Casilla流淚，但仍然對一個球員對輸球所做出的
反應感到傷心。Casilla在乎他的工作且有自信。他也了解這場輸球宣告他在巨人的日子
