“It would be awesome being a part of that forever,” Fielder said.
It is possible, however, that Fielder could be in his final weeks with the
franchise. The Brewers are in the midst of one of their most memorable
seasons, but there is a question as to whether the team can retain Fielder
when he becomes a free agent this off-season.
Fielder, who has 28 home runs, is the powerful cleanup hitter in a lineup
that has muscled the Brewers (76-52) to the top of the National League Central. The team has won 22 of its last 25 games after its 6-2 victory over the Mets on Sunday at Citi Field.

The Brewers signaled their intention to win, and to win now,
when they declined to trade Fielder in July. The move by General Manager Doug
Melvin echoed the decision in 2008 to trade for C. C. Sabathia, who that year
led the Brewers to just their third playoff appearance.
“It means a lot because you don’t get these opportunities a lot,”
Fielder said of the team’s attempt to make a run.
There’s no guarantee you’ll get another team that can win like this.
People go their whole career and not even go to the playoffs,
let alone the World Series.”
It will be another matter as to whether the Brewers will actually
be able to afford Fielder when he becomes available on the open market.
The Brewers made a substantial offer to keep Sabathia,
but he ended up signing with the Yankees.

They have been unable to reach an agreement with Fielder’s agent,
Scott Boras. The club already has a significant financial obligation
to left fielder Ryan Braun, who signed a five-year,
$105 million deal in April.

提出這個合約的用意，是要告訴大家已經有負擔在身的酒鬼未必有能力滿足小王子

He drove in eight runs over the three games, including two Sunday,
bringing his season total to 98 runs batted in.
? On Saturday, Fielder mashed a three-run homer in the third inning,
then singled to tie the game in the ninth as the Brewers went on to win,
11-9. The home run was hit so hard that the sound of the ball smacking
an empty seat in right field was audible across the ballpark.
? “That pitch he hit, it had no business getting hit,
let alone swinging at it,” Brewers pitcher Shaun Marcum said.
“He’s incredible the way he gets locked in, and he’s able to hit
the ball all over the ballpark. He’s very athletic.”
? To complement the team’s powerful bats, the bold Melvin followed
through on his plan to add two pitchers in the off-season,
signing Marcum and Zack Greinke to strengthen the rotation.
The team also appears to have a stronger bullpen than it did
when it made the playoffs in 2008.
? The combination has put the Brewers, whose only other playoff appearances
came in 1981 and 1982, in a comfortable spot atop the division.
? Fielder appeared similarly at ease in the visitors’ clubhouse
Sunday morning as he padded around in customized sneakers
that were gold, had his No. 28 on them and featured a cheeky message stitched
into the heels. The inscription: “Like What You See?”
? The rest of baseball may have a chance to answer that question
in the off-season.
