這一段是我覺得最有意思的部份，我不曉得 Jim Caple 是什麼來歷，不
過挑上 "名將" 之稱的 Tony LaRussa 就不容易。
Caple 說的是：

在 non-waiver trading deadline 之前，如果 雙城隊 願意撿個高價的
全星星 -- 就算只做這麼一次也好，這不是很棒嗎？
而如果說 Tony LaRussa 的 "帶隊天分" 值得上 "那兩本暢銷書" 的話，
那麼他即使用上 Tony Batista (而不是 Rolen)，也有本事贏球的。
而最後....

我不曉得是 "哪" 兩本暢銷書？不過我猜有一本是 Buzz Bissinger 所
著的 "Three Nights in August"，講的是 03 年 Cubs 造訪 Busch
Stadium 的一個 3-game series 的 narrative。
我記得在 05 年與朋友出國旅遊時，他有帶上這本書，我也就順手翻了
幾個章節。其中不時對 "Moneyball" 的一些觀點冷嘲熱諷，也有一些
把 "非統計" 的統計拿出來當証據的論點 (如果我沒記錯，那些差不多
thrity-something 的菁英 GM 都被 Bissigner 給 "數落" 了一頓)。
我沒有時間把它看完，只是對於所謂的 "stathead"，這本書是一疊
"昂貴的廢紙" 的機會可能不小。如果有人知道 "那兩本暢銷書" 是
哪兩本，也請分享一下。
當然 "statheads" 對於 "好的 manager 是否可以讓球隊的戰力有所提
昇" 一直是語多保留的態度。Most likely，這個問題的答案應該是
"Negative!"。而以我個人的感覺，LaRussa 的 "輝煌" 戰績仍是出自
於他手下球員們的 "Great Performance so that help make up his
(LaRussa's) managing mistakes"。
說穿了，我認為 manager 對於勝負的影響往往是破壞遠大於貢獻，而
實力相當的兩支球隊碰上時，破壞做得少的 manager 可以替他的球
隊贏球。而我們也都曉得，LaRussa 的手下很少出現 "弱隊"。
So, a manager might just be a SILLY evil for each team,
and there can be no exception for Tony LaRussa.
