President Donald Trump has set a two-week deadline to decide if the United Sta
tes will strike Iran.

“Based on the fact that there is a substantial chance of negotiations that ma
y or may not take place in the near future, I will make my decision of whether
or not to go within the next two weeks,” White House Press Secretary Karolin
e Leavitt said Thursday, reading a statement from the president to reporters.
白宮發言人李維特向記者宣達川普旨意：「鑒於最近談判可能會舉行，也可能不會舉行，
我將在兩周內決定是否執行」。
Leavitt said Trump would prefer a diplomatic solution, but the president — in
consultation with the National Security Council — is weighing U.S. military
intervention to keep Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, according to a rece
nt POLITICO report. The U.S. is the only country with the military capacity to
destroy Iran’s nuclear program.
根據Politico近期報導，李維特表示川普更傾向用外交策略解決問題，但總統正與國安委
員會磋商，決定是否軍事干預，美國是唯一能摧毀伊朗核武計畫的國家。
“Iran has all that it needs to achieve a nuclear weapon,” Leavitt said. “Al
l they need is a decision from the supreme leader to do that, and it would tak
e a couple of weeks to complete the production of that weapon, which would of
course pose an existential threat not just to Israel, but to the United States
and to the entire world.”
李維特：「伊朗擁有製造核武所需的一切」。 “他們只需要最高領導人做出決定，而且
只需幾週時間就能完成生產，這當然不僅會對以色列構成生存威脅，還會對美國乃至整個
世界構成威脅。”
The comments came at the end of a week of heightened tension in the decades-lo
ng conflict between Israel and Iran. As Iran and Israel lobbed rockets at each
other, Trump left the Group of Seven conference early and has convened multip
le meetings in the Situation Room.
川普發表這番言論之際，以色列和伊朗之間長達數十年的衝突正值緊張局勢加劇的一周結

The conflict has divided Trump’s coalition, driving a rift between an isolati
onist faction and hawks who have long sought to hobble Iran. Leavitt said Trum
p has long maintained his position that the U.S. should interfere to keep Iran
from obtaining a nuclear weapon and quoted his comments on the subject from m
ore than a decade ago.
這場衝突導致川普的聯盟分裂，導致孤立主義派系與長期試圖阻礙伊朗發展的鷹派之間出

is the strongest and most lethal fighting force in the world, and we have cap
abilities that no other country on this planet possesses.”

Leavitt declined to answer whether the president wanted regime change in Iran,
which has been a goal of hawks like Sen. Lindsey Graham and a red line for MA
GA isolationists.
李維特拒絕回答總統是否希望伊朗政權更迭，這是參議員格蘭姆等鷹派人士的目標，也是
MAGA主義者的紅線。
